The Andria Theatre recently underwent renovations to improve several areas backstage. Goals of the project included: relocating the tech booth to provide more space as well as improving the visibility of the stage, moving the hair and make-up room to the main level to provide better accessibility, improving the two dressing rooms, and creating a new storage room for concessions and cleaning supplies.
Moving the tech booth created an additional open space on the second level that became part of the renovation project and was turned into an executive suite. The new suite can seat up to six people and is a private seating area with an incredible view of the stage.
To get this project done the Andria Theatre was closed for productions from September – November. It was quite a project, with plenty of demolition, build-out for new spaces, and cutting through eight inches of concrete to create the twelve-foot-wide window for the new tech booth.
The total cost of the project was $225,000. The Andria Theatre board of directors approved putting $100,000 of invested funds towards the project. The remaining balance was fundraised last summer allowing the Andria Theatre to pay for the renovations in full.
The result is fabulous with cast members and crew enjoying the improvements immensely. Audiences are treated to a higher quality show due to improvements in the tech booth and small groups of patrons have loved the unique experience in the executive suite.
